One shot, another stabbed at city park

CLARENDON (KATV) - An afternoon at a city park turned into gun shots being fired and a victim in intensive care.

Clarendon Police Chief Randy Julian tells KATV.com 21-year-old Kelvin Hampton of Clarendon approached two other men at the Donald Branch Fishing Hole. As a dispute escalated Hampton pulled a gun and knife on the men.

Police say Kendrick Wiley, 23, of Holly Grove was shot in the leg, while 23-year-old Erin Daniels received a severe cut wound to the stomach. Daniels was transported to a nearby hospital before being flown to Little Rock and placed in an intensive care unit. Wiley was taken to a Stuttgart hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.

Julian said Hampton is being held on two counts of battery and is expected to be arraigned on those charges Wednesday. A semi-automatic handgun was used in the dispute, but it's not known if Hampton had a permit for the weapon.

"We're going to consult with the prosecuting attorney here and see if we'll file any additional charges in this case," said Chief Julian.

Arkansas State Police and Monroe County Sheriff's Department assisted in locating Hampton Sunday night after he fled the scene.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
