During the summer of 2009, he joined the ABC affiliate in northwest Arkansas, KHOG, as an intern. However, it didn't take him long before he began working as a sports reporter.
His features were highlighted by John Daly's return to the PGA Tour and an "on the farm" story about the family that cares for the live Razorback mascot, Tusk. He was later awarded a Mark of Excellence in Television Sports Reporting by the Society of Professional Journalists for the feature.
Following his summer internship, he stayed on with KHOG to do live reporting for the Friday Football Frenzy, a local high school football show.
