PARAGOULD -
Jury selection is set to begin Monday in Paragould in the trial of a man charged with fatally shooting an Arkansas police officer last year.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Jerry Lard, 38. They say Lard killed Trumann police officer Jonathan Schmidt in April of last year following a traffic stop.
The trial was moved at the request of defense attorneys. According to court filings -they plan to argue lard suffers a mental disease or defect.
