Shoplifter Steals Steaks, Injures Officer

Little Rock - It may be a case of successful advertising, or simply a sign of tough economic times.  Walmart, which has recently advertised the quality of its steaks, fell victim to a steak thief on Tuesday.

Just before 7 p.m., off duty police officer Kyron Doucette, working as a security guard, called for back up.  He was wrestling with a shoplifting suspect who was seen stuffing steaks down his pants.

When other officers arrived, they found Officer Doucette sitting on top of James Thompson, 49, of Little Rock.  In the struggle, Doucette received a large laceration over his right eye which needed treatment.

An employee of the Walmart at 8801 Baseline Road said she observed Thompson stuffing steaks down his pants, and chased him from the store.  That's when Doucette picked up the chase.

Thompson is charged with robbery, battery on a police officer, fleeing and theft of property.  His bond is set at $36,000.
