Arkansas has made significant gains in education over the past decade in several key areas, most notably at the basic level in eighth-grade math, the Southern Regional Education Board said in a report released Wednesday.
"These gains are an important step forward and confirm that many of the policies Arkansas has adopted are making a difference," SREB President Dave Spence said in a news release.
Seth Blomeley, spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Education, said the report is "certainly good news, and evidence that a lot of the initiatives we've taken are bearing fruit."
