Sophomore running back Herschel Sims has been dismissed from the Oklahoma State football team, head coach Mike Gundy announced Friday.
Gundy said only that Sims had been dismissed for violation of team rules.
Sims rushed for 242 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman last year, including an 81-yard scamper against Baylor and a one-yard plunge in the Cowboys' 70-28 blowout of Kansas.
His best game came against Texas Tech, when he rushed for 109 yards on 13 carries.
Despite being one of the top recruits in the 2011 signing class, Sims was expected to be the third string tailback behind Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith this season.
