Hot Springs Resident uses Prosthetic Arm to Kill Man

Posted: Updated:

(KATV) When Hot Springs Police arrived on the scene of a disturbance call, the suspect said he used a rock and his prosthetic arm to beat the victim. It happened at the suspect's home, 116 Carson Street. The suspect is now behind bars, charged with second degree murder.

It is the first murder in the city of Hot Springs this year.

The accused is 52 year old Ray Allen Brown. At this time police don't have a witness, but Brown says he was threatened.

There are just a few homes on Carson Street, a few blocks from the Hot Springs Police Department.

Neighbors say Ray Allen Brown has lived here many years and enjoyed having people over, but not one of the neighbors witnessed what happened Tuesday at about 9:45 p.m.

Police were called to the home by Allen Brown himself, reporting a disturbance.

Corporal McCrary Means says, "Once our officer got there, he observed a subject standing in the middle of the road. He asked that subject what was going on. He told them he had been threatened and he had actually gotten into an argument with our victim."

Police are still investigating the case. They want to know if the men knew one another and what lead to the fight. But Brown was forthcoming with officers about how he killed the victim, Robert Terril Brindley, 52.

Brown reportedly knocked Brindley to the ground, face down  by hitting him on the head with his prosthetic arm. He then went to the side of the road, picked up a large rock and beat the victim with it. Brindley was found lying in a pool of blood, clinging to life.

Corporal Means says, "He was transported to the hospital where he later died there."

Brown does have a criminal record, but this is his first felony. Corporal Means adds, "I do know our detectives are still working on this case. I do know the body was sent to the State Crime Lab and they're waiting for some results from them."

Brown is being held at the Garland County Detention Center on $10,000 bond, he is charged with second degree murder.

One of his neighbors told Channel Seven she has to drive by the home every day and thinking about the crime makes her want to move.
