A Little Rock homeless man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for a crime he
allegedly committed almost two years ago.
LRPD is reporting that 37-year-old William Kelley was arrested at the Occupy
Little Rock camp and has been charged with commercial burglary and breaking and
entering.
The November 4, 2010 police report says that three white males broke into
Cajun's Wharf on October 31, 2010 and filled three backpacks with liquor, left
the scene then returned an hour later to steal more liquor.
The 2010 crime was recorded on a security camera, and it is assumed that the
men took around $1000 worth of alcohol.
Lt. Terry Hastings with LRPD says they found out Kelley was staying at
Occupy Little Rock through Facebook.
Occupy Little Rock sent a press release Wednesday afternoon refuting LRPD's
claim that Kelley was arrested on their site, saying that Kelley was arrested
in the post office parking lot next door. OLR said that they had video footage
of Kelley being arrested. However, in the footage Occupy provided to KATV, we
only see the suspect being placed in a patrol car, not the initial arrest.
The following is a portion of the Occupy Little Rock press release: This
alleged incident involving the arrest of Mr. Kelley does not involve and is not
related to the occupy movement. This occurred prior to Mr. Kelley joining OLR.
We are awaiting further developments concerning this incident. He has been a
valued and trusted member of Occupy Little Rock. We support his constitutional
rights, and due process.
