TULSA -- Sources close to the situation tell Tulsa's Channel 8 Sports' Chris Lincoln that ORU men's basketball head coach Scott Sutton spent Monday in Atlanta to interview for the head coaching positions at Nebraska and Mississippi State.
Nebraska fired Doc Sadler after a last place finish in the Big 10 and zero NCAA Tournament appearances in his six seasons in Lincoln.
Mississippi State long time head coach Rick Stansbury retired from coaching after 14 seasons in Starkville.
Logically, Sutton would appear to be a top candidate for the opening at Tulsa University. According to Lincoln's sources, that is not the case.
The search committee is targeting someone who coaches an "up-tempo" style of play. Scott Sutton does not, therefore not a top candidate.
It is also noted the committee intends to wait until after the NCAA Tournament.
