TU Picks Up Conference Road Win At Tulane

NEW ORLEANS Five players scored in double figures, as the Tulsa men's basketball team defeated Tulane, 73-69, Saturday evening at Fogelman Arena.

The win keeps the Golden Hurricane (17-11, 10-4 C-USA) in the middle of the Conference USA championship race, as TU stays in second place, one game behind Memphis.

Freshman Eric McClellan, who finished with 15 points, made two free throws with 17 seconds left to give Tulsa a three-point lead, and sophomore Tim Peete gave the Hurricane a four-point cushion with four seconds left and ice the game.

Senior Steven Idlet became the 34th player in Tulsa history to eclipse 1,000 points with his 11 in the game. Sophomore Jordan Clarkson also scored 15 points to join McClellan in pacing Tulsa. Clarkson scored in double digits for the 25th straight game. Scottie Haralson made three three-pointers and totaled 11 points in the game.

Tulsa shot 54 percent from the floor and outrebounded Tulane 37-25, while the Green Wave shot 47 percent in the game.

Tulsa held a steady lead for most of the second half, until Tulane went on a 10-0 run to take the lead. The run erased a 63-55 Tulsa lead and gave the Wave a 65-63 advantage with 2:36 left. The teams traded the lead six times in the final three minutes.

Haralson posted up and lofted a jumper to give Tulsa the lead for the final time at 70-69 with 35 seconds left. The guards' free throws sealed the win.

Tulane made its first six shots of the game and shot 50 percent in the first half, while the Hurricane made 54 percent of its first-half shots. The Green Wave took a five-point lead, but Tulsa chipped away to bring a seven-point, 37-30, advantage into the locker room.

The Golden Hurricane returns home to face Rice at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
