Jonesboro's Nordex plant secures turbine contract

JONESBORO -

The Nordex USA wind turbine plant in Jonesboro says it has secured a contract to supply a wind farm in Michigan.

The company said Friday the 34 wind turbines it will supply to Exelon Wind LLC will generate enough electricity for 27,000 homes. Customers of Consumers Energy in Jackson, Mich., will be the recipients of the electricity.

The utility has a 20-year agreement with the Beebe Community Wind Farm, where the turbines will be placed. Nordex entered into a joint venture agreement with the Beebe organization to help develop the project.

Work at the site is to start in May, and the first turbines are to be delivered in September.

Nordex started production in 2010 at its Jonesboro factory.
