Students solve real world engineering problems in the TEAMS competition

Posted: Updated:

More than 150 students from across the state went head to head today for the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science or the TEAMS competition.

The teens from 10 Arkansas high schools worked in groups to solve actual engineering problems from the health sciences and medical fields.

Competitions across the country are organized by the Junior Engineering Technical Society as part of National Engineers Week. UALR is the only site in Arkansas.

The problems involve mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, visual interpretation, computer applications, and reading analysis and interpretation.

The main goal is to show students how the lessons they learn in the classroom will apply in the real world.

The high schools involved in today's competition at UALR included Little Rock Central, Little Rock Catholic, J.A. Fair, LISA Academy, Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts, eStem, Paris, Arkadelphia, Russellville, and Memphis Cooper Yeshiva.
