Trumann chief on paid leave during investigation

The mayor of Trumann says the town's police chief has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Mayor Sheila Walters declined to comment on the specifics of the investigation regarding police chief Tony Rusher.

Rusher became police chief in March 2009 after the death of former chief Larry Blagg. Before that, Rusher had served as assistant chief for several years.

Walters tells the Jonesboro Sun that assistant police chief Gary Henry will serve as acting chief during the investigation. She says she hopes to release more details later this week.

Rusher could not be reached for comment Sunday night or early Monday morning.
