Razorback Women Score Senior Day Win

Posted: Updated:

Seniors C'eira Ricketts and Lyndsay Harris helped send their classmates out in style dropping 18 and 17 points, respectively, leading the University of Arkansas women's basketball team to a 67-53 win on Senior Day Sunday.

Ricketts scored 18 points, had six rebounds and seven assists while Harris was hot from the three-point line early and finished with five long-distance shots leading Arkansas (20-6, 9-5 SEC) to is 20th win of the season.

Senior Ashley Daniels grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds and had 10 points, her second double-double of the year, and junior Sarah Watkins added 12 points for Arkansas in the win.

"It always feels good to win on senior day," Arkansas head coach Tom Collen said.  "We were able to send our seniors out with a good victory in front of a nice crowd today.

"Lyndsay played like she could get a three anytime she wanted it and C'eira played like she could get to the rim anytime she wanted," Collen said.  "That is a great ending for them at home.  They played relaxed and always looked like they had the game under control.  I can't ask for more than that."

The Razorbacks opened the game with a 9-0 that forced a Mississippi State timeout.  The Bulldogs responded out of the break and got on the board. The Razorbacks substituted early and often keeping fresh bodies on the floor but State was able to take advantage of some of the personnel changes and score, tying the game at 19 with four minutes to play.

Harris however, was hot from long distance early and Daniels rebounded well with 11 boards, maintaining the lead in the first half.  Harris had 11 points and Daniels and Watkins six each at the break.

Arkansas come out of the locker room and hit early with Harris and Ricketts each hitting three-pointers to stretch the Razorback lead.

The Razorbacks maintained a 10 point lead for much of the second half, stretching it to as much as 15 before the final buzzer.

Arkansas shot 41 percent for the game on 25-for-61 from the floor.  The Razorbacks hit seven three's, five from Harris, and had 39 rebounds in the win.  Arkansas took good care of the basketball with just seven turnovers.  They held Mississippi State to 35.6 percent shooting, well below their season average.

The Razorbacks travel to No. 13/10 Tennessee Thursday and play at No. 25 South Carolina Sunday as the conference regular season closes.
