
Ella's Famous Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. Baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
1 tablespoon milk
1 tsp. Vanilla
Directions:
Measure flour, baking powder, and salt into sifter. Cream butter or margarine until soft in medium-size bowl; add sugar gradually creaming after each addition until well blended. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla. Sift and add dry ingredients to creamed mixture; blend well. Cover bowl; chill dough until firm. Grease baking sheets. Roll out chilled dough, a small amount at a time, to 1/8 inch thickness on lightly floured pastry cloth or board; cut with cookie cutters. Transfer cookies with wide spatula to prepared baking sheets; sprinkle with granulated sugar, if desired. Bake in moderate over (375 F) 5-7 minutes, or until edges are very light brown. Run spatula under cookies to loosen from cookie sheets; remove to wire cake racks; Let cool.
Servings: Makes about 4 dozen
