School custodian honored for saving student

CONWAY -

Tim Boyd Sr., the Bob Courtway Middle School custodian who saved a student in November from choking, was publicly named a hero Wednesday at a school assembly held in his honor.

Conway Fire Department Chief Bart Castleberry presented Boyd with the Conway Fire Department Heroism Award before Boyd's peers, school administration, and the Bob Courtway student body.

Boyd entered the school's gym at 10 a.m. Wednesday with a smile at the surprise. Principal Karen Lasker was able to keep the presentation and the assembly a secret from Boyd, whose wife and sister awaited his arrival in the gym.

When Boyd entered the gym, students, administrators and school staff stood and applauded.

Boyd said he when he walked into the gym and realized that the large gathering was for him, he would have liked to "walk back out."
