Looks can be deceiving.
The man who shows up at your door may sound credible. He may even have a legitimate looking web site.
But buyer beware.
That is the message from the Arkansas Better Business Bureau tonight as it issues an alert on an Arkansas roofing contractor.
Homepros, Inc. has also been known as HPI, LLC.
And owner Michael Todd Upton is also known as Todd Upton.
But whatever you call the roofing company and its owner, the Better Business Bureau calls doing business with Upton…risky business.
"It has been problematic," says Janet Robb of the Better Business Bureau. "He has had a history of having problems delivering his services on time, going back to make repairs in a timely manner and being responsive to customers."
Not just customers…but suppliers too.
For example, a Kansas supplier…SPEC Building Materials…won a judgment against Upton in 2008 for more than $15,000. That case was settled and dismissed last year.
Another supplier in Tennessee…ABC Supply Company…sued and won a $46,000 dollar award. So far only $2,000 has been paid.
According to the web site Homepros, Inc. has offices in Maumelle, Hot Springs Village and Memphis but no addresses are listed.
The phone number listed doesn't work.
"The thing that has caught our eye most recently that has led to the alert that we now have on this company is the fact that over the past 30 days we have received three complaints that we deem to be serious," says Robb.
We've been told that Upton has been working recently in the Brinkley area.
If you have hired him and have concerns, please contact the Better Business Bureau.
