Obama campaign seizes on Romney comments about poor

The Obama campaign has been quick to pounce on a comment today from Mitt Romney -- who told CNN that he's "not concerned about the very poor."

Romney went on to say that there's a "safety net" for them -- and that he's also not worried about the very rich because "they're doing just fine."

Still, President Barack Obama's campaign manager tweeted, "So much for `we're all in this together."'

As Romney took questions from reporters on a flight to Minnesota, he offered a clarification of his comments, saying they were consistent with his theme throughout the race. He says his
"energy is going to be devoted to helping middle-income people."

Romney says there's a "very ample safety net" for the poor, and that "we can talk about whether it needs to be strengthened or whether there are holes in it." But he adds that there are food
stamps, Medicaid, housing vouchers and other programs to help the poor. Romney says "middle income Americans" are "the folks that are really struggling right now."
