KATV Channel 7 - The Spirit of Arkansas: Roof Repair Gone Awry

A Conway home owner wants to share her misfortune…if not her identity…in hopes that you don't end up in her shoes.

After spending $500 dollars…this shouldn't be happening.

"He said that he had just done my neighbor's roof and that he had some material left over and he was going to give me a good bargain on my roof if I wanted it done," recalls the home owner.   

This duped homeowner doesn't want you to know who she is…but she does want you to know what happened to her.

She agreed to a three gallon, $75 dollar roof coating only to get charged much more.

"How long was he on your roof?"

"Less than 30 minutes," she says. 

"And what was the bill?"

"$600 dollars to start out with," she says.  "And then when it looked like I was about to cry he knocked it down to $500."

Two checks were written to this man…Chris Young…who is believed to reside in Jefferson County.

Young has an active warrant out of both El Dorado and the state of Georgia and a criminal record in West Virginia, Delaware and Florida.

Our victim says young was charming at the start. but things turned when it was time to get paid.

"I told him I didn't have that kind of money in the bank," the homeowner says. "And he was standing there badgering me to write the check."

"Did he seem threatening or menacing?"

"A little menacing in a way," she recalls. "I hope I get my money back. And I hope that he goes to jail and does not do this to anybody else."

We looked at the roof and saw little evidence that any work was done at all and…even if it was…the roof still leaks.
