Little Rock, Little Rock police say drag racing is to blame for a 5 car collision that claimed two lives.
"You can see by the vehicle that's wrapped around the pole an indication of the speed," said Little Rock police spokesperson Lt. Terry Hastings.
Police say a red and silver car started racing traveling along S. University. The driver of the silver car saw another car in his lane and quickly switched lanes, causing the silver car to clip the red car according to police.
A light pole practically sliced the red car on impact at the intersection of I-30 and University. Police said the driver died immediately. Little Rock fire fighters used the Jaws of Life to cut the female passenger out of the car; she was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
The silver car wasn't done, police said it, "Continued south and impacted another vehicle head on, luckily no injuries in either one of those vehicles."
One of the other vehicles was a Little Rock School District school bus and thankfully no kids were on board. The driver was not hurt either.
The driver of the silver car was lucky and walked away from the scene.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims until next of kin is notified. Hastings said investigators are working on the details of the crash and the police report will be released Wednesday.
