Pipe bomb found, disabled in Ark. wildlife area

HUNTSVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says authorities have safely disabled a pipe bomb that was found in a wildlife management area in northwest Arkansas over the weekend.

The commission says the 18-inch bomb was discovered Saturday at the McIlroy Madison County Wildlife Management Area. A bomb squad from the Bentonville Police Department disabled the bomb using a water cannon. The commission says the bomb was made of PVC pipe and appeared to be filled with gunpowder pellets, a shotgun shell and firing pin.

According to authorities the device could have detonated if someone picked it up.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating.
