Christmas tree drop sites available at Dardanelle and Ozark lakes

Posted: Updated:

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.-- If you are wondering how to discard that Christmas tree after the holidays, why not drop it off at Dardanelle and Ozark lakes where it can be used to enhance fishing?

The Army Corps of Engineers' Russellville Project Office ranger staff will be assembling and placing fish attractors on both Dardanelle and Ozark lakes.  After the fish attractors are placed GPS coordinates will be taken and posted on the project's website for those wishing to fish them.

Fish attractors create spawning areas for fish and cover for small fry, which increases survival rates and leads to better fishing.

Drop locations on Lake Dardanelle include Dwight Mission boat ramp and Spadra Park's east boat ramp.  Drop location on Ozark Lake is White Oak boat ramp.

Local businesses with leftover trees that did not sell for Christmas are welcome to drop off their trees as well.  Only live trees, not artificial ones, will be used to make the fish attractors.  Be sure to remove all tinsel and ornaments as it is not biodegradable.  Trees will be accepted until Jan. 16.
