
Career-Highs Lead Trojans to 72-63 Victory Over Seattle
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—Freshman Taylor Gault tied a career-high in scoring with 25 points, while sophomore Taylor Ford recorded a career-high 14 points as the UALR women's basketball team defeated Seattle 72-63 Wednesday at The Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans recorded a season-high low of nine turnovers while forcing 21 as UALR improves to 4-8 overall.
Gault went 11-20 from the field and also recorded a team-high of three blocks, while Ford went 5-of-7 from the field and recorded a team-high of six assists.
Senior Marian Kursh also recorded 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the floor and led the team in rebounds with eight.
Both teams opened the half the baskets, before a three-pointer by Elle Kerfoot gave Seattle (6-6) the 5-4 lead at the 17:57 mark. UALR tied the score three-straight times on a free throw by Kursh and back-to-back jumpers by Gault.
After a Redhawk three-pointer, back-to-back layup and ones by Kursh and Ford gave the Trojans a 15-11 edge with 12:34 until the half. Over the next two minutes, UALR outscored Seattle 6-4 to maintain the 21-15 edge.
Back-to-back baskets by Kacie Sowell for SU sparked a 6-2 run by the Redhawks to cut the Trojans led to 23-21 with 7:10 on the clock. Six-straight points by Gault started an 8-2 run for the 31-23 lead UALR advantage.
In the remaining 3:19 until the half, Seattle scored nine points while holding the Trojans to four off of a jumper by Janette Merriex and free throws by Hannah Fohne to cut the UALR lead to 35-32 at the half.
UALR opened the second half on a 6-0 run with points from Megan Williams, Gault from a steal, and Merriex. Over the next three minutes, Seattle outscored the Trojans 10-7 to cut the UALR lead to 46-42 with 14:16 remaining.
The Trojans maintained a six-point lead, until back-to-back jumpers by Gault at the 7:19 and 6:46 marks gave UALR the team's largest lead of the game at ten. The Redhawks outscored the Trojans eight to four over the next three minutes to cut the UALR lead to 64-58 at the 3:26 mark.
Back-to-back layups by Ka'Nesheia Cobbins sparked an 8-5 over the final minutes to give UALR a 72-63 win.
UALR starts Sun Belt Conference action on Wednesday, December 28 as the Trojans visit Denton, Texas to face North Texas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
