The University of Tulsa has accepted an invitation to play Brigham Young in the 2011 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl.
The Golden Hurricane (8-4) will play the Cougars on December 30th at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas at 11 a.m. in a game that will be televised by ESPN.
"It's very exciting to be invited to the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl," said Tulsa head coach Bill Blankenship. "Anytime you're partnered with anything having to do with our U.S. Military is a wonderful thing. There has been very good history in this bowl. Selfishly, we're excited to be going to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I think it gives us an opportunity to engage our fan base and the timing couldn't be better. Fans will have time to celebrate a little holiday time and then finish that up with a Friday morning Bowl game."
This is Tulsa's 18th bowl appearance and sixth in the last seven years. It's the team's second appearance in the Armed Forces Bowl, having lost to Utah 25-13 in 2006.
The last time TU and BYU (9-3) met was the 2007 season, when Tulsa won 55-47 at H.A. Chapman Stadium. The Cougars lead the all-time series 6-to-1 with all six victories coming in Provo, Utah.
