Stillwater -

The family of Oklahoma State women's basketball coach Kurt Budke released a statement Friday afternoon.

"Kurt was a great husband, dad, son, brother, friend and man who also happened to be an incredible coach and leader of young people," the statement reads. "His life was a testament to the power of perseverance, will, and determination. His loss is indescribable to both our family and his OSU family."

Budke's father, John Budke, added, "He gave us 50 years of fun and excitement. We find it too difficult to talk further about it at this time."

Budke, assistant coach Miranda Serna, pilot Olin Branstetter and his wife, Paula Branstetter, were killed when the single-engine aircraft they were in crashed in a heavily wooded area 30 miles outside of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Budke had been head coach at Oklahoma State for seven years. He and Serna were on a recruiting trip.
