University of Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale says she is devastated by the news of a plane crash that killed Oklahoma State head women's basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant Miranda Serna.
Budke and Serna were on a recruiting trip to Arkansas when their plane went down about 30 miles outside of Little Rock. They were two of four who were killed in the crash. The others were identified as former State Senator Olin Branstetter and his wife, Paula.
"Kurt was a fantastic basketball coach and he was a tremendous competitor," said Coale. "More importantly, though, he was a devoted father and husband, and a humble but courageous leader of young people."
"Our hearts and prayers go out to Kurt's wife, Shelley, and their children, and to Miranda's family, and the families of the other victims as well," she continued. "Additionally, we are praying for the entire Oklahoma State women's basketball family."
Oklahoma State has canceled its weekend women's basketball games against Grambling State and Texas-Arlington. Athletic Director Mike Holder has announced that associate head coach Jim Littell will assume head coaching duties on an interim basis.
