Gala to honor scholars, announce scholarship fund in honor of Patricia Guardado

Little Rock, AR –The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 750 and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) Council 756 are continuing their tradition of supporting educational opportunities within the Hispanic community.

On Friday, October 28th, the councils are hosting their 10th Annual Scholarship Banquet Gala from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the UALR Ledbetter Conference Room of the Donaghey Student Center.The keynote speaker for the evening will be UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson.

In addition to honoring 19 Hispanic students for their outstanding academic performance, the councils are announcing the establishment of the Patricia Guardado Endowed Scholarship Fund founded in honor of slain UALR student Patricia Guardado.

"We want honor the memory of Patricia Guardado and support students like her in their efforts to improve themselves through higher education," said Dr. Terry Trevino-Richard,event organizer and president of LULAC Council 750. "Students like Patricia embody the essence of what these scholarships are all about—Hispanic students gaining access to the American dream."

LULAC Council 750 was incorporated in 1975 for the purpose of offering scholarships to Hispanic students with outstanding academic records. Since that time, the council has provided over $500,000 in financial assistance to more than 400 Arkansas students.

    BRYANT (KATV)--A Bryant daycare owner has her license revoked after one of her employees allegedly dragged an 8-month old infant across the carpet. We first reported this story back in February when surveillance video showed the employee dragging the infant by the leg. Shortly after this incident, the Department of Human Services investigated further and revoked the owner's license closing the Wisdom Tree Learning Academy's doors for good.
