Operation Delta Blues: Governor, Local Law Enforcement, & Mayor React

Posted: Updated:

As the vans pulled out of Eastern Arkansas, the mug shots started to roll in.

All of the 51 suspects arrested in "Operation Delta Blues" were driven to the Pulaski County Detention Center as they will have court at the Federal Courthouse Thursday.

The charges range from drug trafficking to firearms charges.

"That's why I say to you this is a dawning of a new day in the delta and I'm very appreciative that they're here," said Helena-West Helena Mayor Arnell Willis.

In connection to the raids three were arrested in Little Rock.

"It's a lot of cooperation from a lot of agencies and we're pleased to see these things go this way," said Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas.

Governor Mike Beebe said he's proud of the law enforcement in the state, but disappointed in the five officers who were indicted.

"If they are ultimately proven guilty, it's a bad situation when government officials are found guilty of anything like that," said Beebe.

The FBI spokesperson Valerie Parlave said they are investigating about 20 cases in Arkansas and more charges may be on the way.

Beebe said, "I think they're will be some more arrests forthcoming as people start to talk about what's been going on."

Parlave said there are still about a dozen fugitives that were not caught today.
