Clinton dedicates pedestrian bridge at library

Former President Bill Clinton says a $10.5 million pedestrian walkway made from an old railroad bridge is important because it connects the area's past to the present and allows visitors to connect with nature.

Clinton was in Little Rock on Friday with his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and daughter, Chelsea, to dedicate the Clinton Presidential Park Bridge and the Bill Clark Wetlands.

Clinton described the bridge as a symbol of harmony and contrasted it with the divisions in politics today.

The 2,653-foot walkway is converted from an 1899 railroad bridge and crosses the Arkansas River. It opened briefly to the public Friday, but will officially open Sunday.

The wetlands are named after the chairman and chief executive officer of CDI Contractors, which built Clinton's presidential library.
