Four Arrested for Lonoke Murder, Community Gathers to Pray

Posted: Updated:

(KATV) Lonoke - A hearing was held Monday for four people accused of killing a Lonoke man on September 18th.

Four suspects are behind bars in Texas in connection with the killing of a Lonoke man.

Lonoke County Prosecutor Chuck Graham says 24-year-old Jeremy Walker was arrested in Longview, Texas. He has been charged with second-degree murder and terroristic threatening for allegedly killing 28-year-old Walter Jones last week.

Fantasia Williams, Courtney McClain and Kimo McClain were also arrested. They will likely be charged with hindering apprehension. All four are from Lonoke.

In response to the family feud that escalated into a murder, Lonoke pastors gathered to fight crime through prayer.

Before everyone met, one church group walked down the streets shook up by the death and destruction to shake hands and tell neighbors they don't have to fear for their safety anymore.

A pastor stand at the podium, "Tonight we gather to ask God to heal our community…"

Ten pastors and their congregations were invited to St. John Baptist Church to pray and talk about what needs to be done in the community.

Margaret Edmondson was in attendance, "We're going to have to step it up. After what happened last week, we're going to have to step it up."

Edmondson is about to re-open her alcohol and drug abuse program in Lonoke to try and curve crime. She explains, "I have some people that still call me and tells me thank you for the support and having a group where we they can come and talk. It was helping, it was helping."

People young and old joined hands and prayed for healing in light of the recent violence. Pastor DeSean Jarrett with St. John Baptist Church says, "Hopefully we're gathering together as an initial start to bring impact and change to our community."

On September 18th, 28-year old Walter Jones was killed in broad daylight, flower mark where he took his last breath in front of his home.

Police say he got into an argument with the McClains at a Scott nightclub the night before.

Seeking vengeance for his death, someone burned down the grandmothers home of the man who was suspected in his death.

Days followed with threats to relatives. Neighbors hope it's all over with the recent arrest.

Pastor Jarrett adds, "As a pastor it was a real concern to me that this would not get out of control and also to let the public know Lonoke is still a safe community." He continues, "It's a wonderful community to live in, worship in and to work in."

Edmonds on smiles, "I think we're going to make a difference after tonight, we're going to make a big difference."

Pastors want to meet regularly to get folks involved with their community. They say for a small city there's a lot of crime.

Police found Courtney McClain injured and walking away from the crime scene, he was questioned but not arrested. After he got out of the hospital with a gun shot wound to the arm, police say they didn't have enough evidence to hold him. Police say the gun found at the scene didn't match the bullet that killed Jones, but he has since been arrested along with his friend, girlfriend and brother. They will all be extradited back to Arkansas.

This is the first murder in Lonoke city limits in five years.

Walter Jones was laid to rest Saturday. He leaves behind 5-children.
