Juan Nicasio began his season with the Tulsa Drillers. Now 13 games into his major league career, he's having surgery after being struck in the head by a line drive in Friday night's game against Washington.
Nicasio suffered a neck fracture in the second inning of the Rockies' 5-3 loss to the Nationals when a line drive off the bat of Ian Desmond hit him in the right side of the head.
In a statement, the Rockies said Nicasio was "resting comfortably".
Nicasio made nine starts with the Drillers this season, going 5-and-1 with a 2.22 earned run average. He was called up to the parent club on May 28th.
In 13 starts at the major league level, Nicasio is 4-and-4 with a 4.14 ERA.
