PULASKI COUNTY – The Humane Society of Pulaski County is working find new homes for the 58 dogs seized from a suspected puppy mill last week, while advising the public how to avoid accidentally dealing with an abuser of animals.
The dogs have been under the care of the Humane Society of Pulaski County since they were seized in Saline County last Saturday. They're about three weeks away from being ready to be adopted, still in need of treatment and re-socialization.
"When you've got animals living in the conditions that these were living in with no ventilation and temperatures that we've had, it's a huge health danger to these small breed animals," said Kay Simpson with the Humane Society.
Simpson is now glad authorities have arrested and charged him with more than 40 charges of animal cruelty.
In her 18 years helping animals, Simpson has seen countless puppy millers sell their puppies to unsuspecting customers.
In this instance, Case allegedly sold his dogs online via sites like Craigslist. The online sale of dogs from animals from puppy mills and backyard breeders are very common, according to animal advocates.
Simpson says if a seller won't let you come onto their property, they're most like the kind you should stay away from.
"See the conditions it's living in," said Simpson. "Nobody should be ashamed for you to come into their facility or their place where they're selling puppies."@
