
Registration is now open for three human resource re-certification courses offered in July and August by the University of Arkansas Global Campus Professional Development Network.
Human resource professionals can enroll in one or all three courses in the series "What HR Professionals Need to Know Now about New Healthcare-related Laws: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Information Technology and Economic Clinical Health Act."
Cammie Scott of CK Harp & Associates, LLC, will teach the health care law classes. She holds credentials as a life underwriter training council fellow, registered health underwriter, registered employee benefit consultant, senior professional in human resources, and has certification in long-term care. She also has a master's degree in industrial engineering.
The cost is $99 for all three courses or $39 for one. Participants can register online.
The Human Resource Certification Institute will award re-certification credit for each of the courses. All three will be offered in classroom sessions in room 423 of the Global Campus Rogers facility at 3300 Market St., Pinnacle Center, Rogers. The courses are not available online.

The new health care laws contain sweeping changes to health care and the health care delivery system in the U.S. In some way, the law will affect every person living in the United States. One hundred and fifty-nine new government agencies were formed to oversee the implementation of health care laws.
This course will help professionals keep their organizations in compliance. It will equip participants with a basic knowledge and understanding of the law, explain the implementation timelines, and point professionals to resources to assist in the implementation of the law within their organizations.
This class will cover the strategic steps needed to ensure that a business is in compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, while highlighting the major changes incumbent in the act that relate to businesses' strategic goals.
The instructor will review the history of the law, discuss how the act came into being and why it is important for human resource professionals to know and understand it. This session will explain how to align a benefits plan with a business plan and address how the required changes may impact the bottom line of the business, including some of the key tax law provisions and criminal penalties associated with non-compliance.
This act has been nicknamed "HIPAA with teeth." Participants will learn how not to get bitten.
The Health Information Technology Education and Clinical Health (HITECH) provision is a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It affects every business that maintains personal health information, yet most employers are unaware of the act and its implications for their businesses. This law has been overshadowed by health care reform. Not complying with the law can have devastating consequences for a business. There are now both civil and criminal penalties associated with non-compliance. This class will cover the basic steps needed to ensure a business is in compliance.
