Arkansas loses two games, Northwest Arkansas wins one

(AP) - The Arkansas Travelers lost both games of a double-header with Tulsa last night. Tulsa beat the Travelers 2-0 in the first game and 1-0 after 11 innings in the second game. Northwest Arkansas beat Springfield 3-2.

The Naturals play this morning against Springfield at home. The game starts at 11:05 a.m. Tulsa and Arkansas play again at 11 a.m.


UA gymnast Grable a finalist for Honda Award

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Two-time gymnastics national champion Katherine Grable from the University of Arkansas is among the finalists for the gymnastics' Honda Award.

The award is given each year to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics." The recipient becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.

Grable is a senior who became the first national champion in UA women's gymnastics history.

The other gymnastics' finalists are Bridget Sloan of Florida, Kim Jacob of Alabama and Emily Wong of Nebraska.


GAC names softball player, pitcher of the week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The Great American Conference has named Southeastern Oklahoma State's Jessica Simmons and Arkansas Tech's Sydnee Clark the conference's softball Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Simmons had seven hits in 10 at bats in leading the Savage Storm to three wins against Southwestern Oklahoma State. She also stole six bases and scored seven runs.

Clark picked up a pair of complete-game victories against Henderson State. She struck out 10 in a 5-2 nine-inning victory on Friday and followed that with a three-hit shutout for the second win.
