No Time for P. E.

Posted: Updated:

With childhood obesity rates on the rise, there's been a push to get kids moving.  More physical activity is good for kids on several different levels.  But, a recent poll conducted by C. S. Motet Children's Hospital reveals that 1/3 of the parents of elementary aged students believe that their kids don't get enough exercise time in P. E. at school.  They also don't think there is enough recess time or appropriate playground equipment.  When asked, most kids say they can't concentrate until they have some time to exert some physical activity.  To really know how much wiggle room your kids have at school, experts say parents need to go to school and watch their kids at P. E. and recess.  They need to find out how long those exercise opportunities are during the day and if there are problems... they need to address the school administrators.  Parents can also make exercise a priority at home with their own kids.  An easy way for everyone in a family to get more exercise is to take a family walk in the evening.
