It is that time of year again, when kids are busy taking tests and final exams. As the school year ends, the stress in many homes goes up because kids are trying to wrap up their academic year in a good way. When asked what stresses kids the most current research says it is grades and trying to get into a good college. Deadlines at school can also add to the pressure. Experts say parents can help by not adding onto the pressure by projecting their own goals onto their kids. Kids have to have their own motivation to do well. Their stress is usually worse when they are working for their parents instead of themselves. Experts say parents need to let their children know they have high expectations. But, they say parents need to be aware that too much pressure can collapse... emotionally, physically or academically. They say it is all about finding a balanced level of intrinsic motivation for kids. They need to want to do well, but they can't let that desire dominate their lives. Experts say keeping your child well-rounded in their interests can also help keep academic stress at bay.
