I-40 Closure Causes Headaches for Drivers

Posted: Updated:

BALD KNOB - Traffic jams and long detours... essentially a travel nightmare for the thousands of drivers trying to make their way along a stretch of Interstate 40.

I-40 at the White River is closed because the river water backed up, and crept onto the roadway.

The travel situation looks bleak for the more than 30-thousand drivers who pass through the area every day because for at least a day, the portion of the interstate between Brinkley and Hazen is closed.

Drivers coming from Memphis are being diverted to Highway 64 toward Bald Knob to then travel south on Highway 67 / 167.

And those going eastbound, forced to take the Hazen exit and travel south, before meeting back with the interstate at Brinkley.
