AIR FORCE BRINGS THEIR MUSICAL MIGHT TO MUSEUM
FOR IMMEDIATE ARKANSAS RELEASE – April 8, 2011
LITTLE ROCK, AR – Barring a Federal government shutdown, the Old State House Museum will host the Air Force Band of Mid-America Midwest Winds in concert on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the concert is free.
The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America is the principal musical ambassador of Headquarters Air Mobility Command. The roots of the Band of Mid-America reach back to 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. After several moves, the band relocated to Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, in 1944. The squadron's mission is to support the Air Force with diverse musical performances to promote and support troop morale, recruiting, community relations, and the preservation of our national heritage.
Today's Band of Mid-America is comprised of 60 full-time musicians. All members may perform together for special concerts, parades, and other events, or they may be subdivided into several smaller autonomous performing groups to satisfy local, major command, and regional needs.
The Chamber Ensembles highlight some of the finest chamber music of the sixteenth through twentieth centuries. One such group, the Air Force Band of Mid-America Midwest Winds, delivers a unique musical performance, one that is a reflection of the values and excellence found every day throughout the United States Air Force. This performing ensemble's library includes works from renaissance to contemporary styles, popular marches, and patriotic favorites.
