Expected Participants for the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut Tops One Million
North Little Rock, Ark — The deadline for the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management's earthquake awareness contests has been extended to April 15.
To commemorate the bicentennial of the 1811-1812 New Madrid Earthquakes, the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management invites eligible students to participate in the Arkansas Earthquake Ready Poster and Video Contests.
The Arkansas Earthquake Ready Poster Contest invites students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades to submit posters that promote earthquake awareness in Arkansas. Submitted posters have a chance to be featured on the ADEM website and one participant will win an iPod Nano.
The Arkansas Earthquake Ready Video Contest invites students, grades 9-12, to submit a 90 second video that promotes earthquake awareness. Three finalist will receive a DVD set for their classroom consisting of the following History Channel programs: MegaQuake 10.0, How The Earth Was Made, and The Planets. One finalist video will then be selected to be used in a television campaign during National Preparedness Month in September 2011.
Winners will be announced on April 28 as a part of the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.
