Bans on Cussing

Posted: Updated:

There's an anti-cursing movement afoot in school hallways across the country.  Many educators believe that cursing leads to bad behavior and even bullying.  It has become a big enough problem for many teens that some schools are holding a day to just say "no" to cursing.  A middle school in Mobile, Alabama recently held a just say no to cursing day.  Many teenagers admit that most conversation between teens contain four letter words.  It has become very common-place that many admit they've forgotten that cursing is considered to be a bad thing.  Many schools believe the cursing lowers civility nationwide.  Some educators agree that it lowers the level that kids will stoop to when they're trying to be cool.  If kids don't believe parents and teachers expect them to behave well and speak well, they may start to believe that no one cares about them.  When there's no accountability, there's a bigger likelihood of kids crossing other lines more severe than cursing.  Experts also emphasize the power parents have in preventing cursing.  If parents model good behavior and don't often resort to that type of language, their kids will be more likely to do the same.
