Fourth Annual Tie One On to Raise Needed Funds

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS (November 29, 2010) – The fourth annual Tie One On
fundraiser will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. December 2 at Pavilion in the Park in Little Rock. All
proceeds from the event will benefit Our House, a Little Rock shelter and resource center for the
working homeless – adults and children.
Individual tickets are $50 per person, which provides one week of food, shelter and counseling to
a working homeless individual or child at Our House. For ticket information, call 501-374-7383,
ext. 200 or email ganelle@ourhouseshelter.org. Tickets are also available online at
www.OurHouseShelter.org
.
More than 400 friends and supporters of Our House gather each year for Tie One On – an
auction of artistic aprons and corresponding packages, with food catered by Trios Restaurant,
libations and live jazz entertainment. The attire for the evening is winter casual.
Dinner servers at Our House include local congregations and corporations that have served over
77,000 meals per year in the Our House dining room over the last 15 years. Auction aprons are a
celebration of that very specific form of community support, without which Our House would not
be able to provide the standard three meals per day.
"We are again looking forward to another fun-filled evening at Pavilion in the Park to help raise
money and awareness for the hard-working families in our community," said Georgia Mjartan,
executive director of Our House. "Last year, we raised more than $60,000 for the children and
families served by Our House, and we hope this year's event will be equally as successful. We
feel fortunate to have such tremendous support from so many businesses and individuals in
central Arkansas."
Participants will dine on the famous Trios dips and dinner, food for which is donated by Ben E.
Keith Foods. Glazer's Distributors of Arkansas will present beer, wine and an exclusive signature
cocktail created by a local Trios mixologist.
The 2010 event will feature Celebrity Live Auction items autographed by Bill Clinton, Madeline
Albright, and Jermaine Taylor. Other items up for bid include hunting trips, spa packages from
AB Mackee, and more!
All proceeds from the event will help to provide housing, free childcare and summer programs for
the children at Our House, enabling their parents to work and establish permanent situations.
"Winter is always a busy time of the year because many low-income parents who work while their
young children are in school find themselves in a terrible predicament," Mjartan said. "If they can't
afford childcare and have to stay home with their young ones, they will lose the job that is paying
their rent. This situation results in dozens of families with children becoming homeless and
coming to Our House, out of the cold, each winter."
