Haskell – An emergency shelter put in place for residents of Traskwood following a large wildfire near the Saline County town did not have to be used.

The fire was declared 100% contained around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Bridgette Williams, spokesperson for the American Red Cross said volunteers were on hand at the Harmony Grove High School at Haskell Sunday night to help anyone needing shelter.

Williams said it appeared that at least one homeowner might need the shelter, but was later taken home by fire department crews.

About one hundred fire fighters fought the blaze which was reported around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday.  The fire eventually burned 500 acres before being brought under control.

People living near the fire were evacuated for about an hour and a half before being allowed back into their homes.
