KATV Channel 7 - The Spirit of Arkansas: Jason Pederson

Jason Pederson

Jason Pederson is KATV's consumer affairs reporter. Working with a great producer (Donna Nunn) and a team of volunteers, "Seven On Your Side" helps Arkansans understand their rights as consumers so they do not fall victim to dishonest business schemes.  Call 324-HELP if you need assistance.

Jason was raised in New Richmond, Wisconsin, and earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls in 1992.  His career as an Arkansas reporter began at KTVE in El Dorado in 1993.  Two years later, Jason moved to Little Rock and began working at KATV as a general assignment reporter.

In June of 1999 Jason became the consumer reporter for KATV's well-known "Seven On Your Side" program.  About the same time Jason began weekly 'We-Try-It-Before-You-Buy-It" segments on Good Morning Arkansas.

Jason and his wife Mary Carol reside in Little Rock and are both active members of Fellowship Bible Church. They have two children. Spencer Everett was born in 1999 and Shelby Faith in 2001. In their spare time they enjoy (depending on the season) antiquing, fishing, swimming at their community pool, visiting Wisconsin and Gulf Shores and (especially) calling the Hogs!

Recent awards include (all 1st place unless noted):

2012: Edward R. Murrow Award (regional):   Investigative

2007: Society of Professional Journalists:      Interpretive/Investigative

2002: Edward R. Murrow Award (regional):   Continuing Coverage
2002: Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association:    Citizen of the Year

Jason has talents beyond reporting.  He has won several Celebrity Christmas Karaoke events benefiting Youth Home, Inc.  To this day it is hard for many who saw his rendition of Prince's "Kiss" to take his reporting seriously.  And Jason has also participated in and won the Arkansas State Fair Celebrity Cow Chip Throwing contest.

Last but most importantly, Jason serves on the board of directors of Soaring Wings Ranch, a Christian home for kids who need a chance. Visit www.soaringwingsranch.com to learn more.
His wife founded The C.A.L.L., a non-profit organization dedicated to raising up quality foster homes throughout the Christian community.  Visit www.thecallinarkansas.org to learn more.
