Redfield - The Jefferson County sheriff's department responded to the Arkansas River Wednesday morning to save two stranded duck hunters.

The two hunters apparently had no way to maneuver after their boat propeller broke off.

The pair drifted five miles along the river from Redfield--without a paddle--but managed to make it to shore, and used a cell phone to call for help.

Authorities pulled the men safely back to the boat landing.

Although we certainly appreciated the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, this story is inaccurate. After the prop completely broke off of the drive shaft and had no way to replace it, we immediately called in and allowed the department plenty of time to come and get us. We actually hunted for a couple of hours before the Sheriffs called and notified us they had made it to the boat ramp and were about to lauch.

In addition, we did have a paddle and used it to maneuvre the boat past a rock levee and into deeper water so the larger boat used the the Sheriff's department could reach us. We never drifted on the river much less for five miles.

Just thought I should set the story straight but thanks again to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. They were responsive, professional and didn't make us feel like idiots.
