Cedar Falls, IA - The University of Northern Iowa has named a dean at Arkansas State University as its next provost.
Gloria Gibson will be UNI's first black provost.
Gibson is currently the dean of the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and professor of English, folklore and ethnomusicology at Arkansas State. She was named UNIs executive vice president and provost on Thursday morning.
The provost is the No. 2 academic official at the university.
Gibson is expected to start on July 1st. She will be paid an annual salary of $210,000 and succeeds James Lubker, who has been interim provost since 2005.
