Little Rock - It is the day that will live in infamy and Sunday Arkansans honored those who perished and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor 67 years ago.
While there is only a small group of Pearl Harbor survivors living in Arkansas, they are strong in their devotion to this country and their belief they simply did what had to be done.
There was a somber, but grateful tone at Sunday's ceremony, honoring Arkansas' Pearl Harbor veterans who share a powerful bond.
(Bill Chase, Pearl Harbor Survivor) "We all got caught up in the same net and we worked our way out of it, it's just like brothers, you might say."Pearcy native Bill Chase was 17-years-old when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
(Chase) "Everything was blowing up, destruction everywhere, it was just unbelievable, you know. Something like that had never happened in my life before,I'd never seen destruction like that."Gene Prescott hadn't seen that type of destruction either.
(Gene Prescott ,Pearl Harbor Survivor) "I was looking down battleship row and I saw all the bombs firing, all the shooting and everything like that."And while Sunday's crowd was there to honor these Pearl Harbor survivors, the veteran's politely pointed out attention and praise were not what they were seeking during that December day.
(Prescott) "We were just in a fight and we just did it, that's all."Many of the survivors are part of the Arkansas Pearl Harbor Survivors Association which holds monthly meetings at Brown's Country Restaurant.
