That "surplus" you're talking about was the result of Huckabee's raising taxes...how soon we forget.

With a Democratic Governor in place and a majority Democratic Legislature, one can be assured that there will be additional taxes to pay soon. Like Walter G. stated, the surplus is gone that Huckabee left, and they will be looking for ways to tax us, to make up for that and also the 3% lost on grocery tax. In addition, I believe the Legislature will look for ways if the Lottery passes, to take this voluntary tax and use it for things other than scholarships. If it is for Law Enforcement, Jails, and roads, I will have no problem with it. They also need to address the growing problem, of illegal aliens within our borders and devise a plan to seek them out, arrest them and then turn them over to ICE to deport them. Or they could just pass a law similar to the one the State of Oklahoma passed, that requires proof of citizenship before they can be hired, along with a criminal charge and fine for any employer that hires one without checking. They are leaving Oklahoma by the droves. The same thing is occurring in Arizona. Do this one state at a time and the border problem would be solved. JMO

Mike Beebe will want to raise taxes in 2009. he couldn't this year because of the Huckabee surplus. That has been spent so Beebe will want to put his hands deeper in the taxpayers pockets.
