It's a story we have been following for more than two years. After waiting ten months, Job McCully finally received a lung transplant Tuesday. The surgery wrapped up late Tuesday afternoon, and doctors say the procedure went well.

Three months ago, doctors told Job’s family he likely only had two days to live. He beat those odds, but was in dire need of a lung transplant.

Channel 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? At 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, his mother, asleep by Job’s bedside at St. Louis Children's Hospital awoke to a phone call. A pair of lungs was available, and surgery would begin in just hours.

(Tina McCully, Mom) "This is what we've been praying and praying for. This is our miracle we've been praying for.”

When Job was four-years-old he conquered Leukemia, but his mother says the treatment damages his lungs.

In February, he went into respiratory failure and has been hospitalized ever since, waiting for new lungs.

(McCully) “We still have a long road ahead of us, but we're depending on God and trusting he's got us this far--and he's going to keep seeing us through until Job's health is restored.”

Job is expected to be in the hospital for another month or two, and is required to stay in St. Louis for at least three months. After that his family plans on finally bringing him home to Bigelow.

(McCully) “I can't wait until the surgery is finally complete and they tell us it was successful. And I can't wait for the day when Job is off the sedation enough that I see the sparkle in his eye--that he realizes he had this transplant.”

The family does not know who donated the lungs. To track Job's progress, click here.
