Little Rock - City officials in Little Rock are considering closing six neighborhood alert centers, cutting programs and laying off nearly 30 employees in January amid dwindling revenues.
Mayor Mark Stodola and City Manager Bruce Moore presented a $130.8 million spending plan Tuesday that also includes eliminating Sunday hours at a fitness center and firing an electrical and plumbing inspector.
Stodola says the plan attempts to spread cuts across city-funded departments, with the exception of the police department, which was spared cuts.
Little Rock officials are working on a $130.8 million budget, about $6.7 million less than what was originally budgeted for 2009 and $3.6 million less than the city's current $134.5 million budget for this year.
