Fayetteville -

A University of Arkansas fraternity chapter is under investigation after a pledge was hospitalized last week when he consumed too much alchohol at a house party.

The university and the national office of Phi Delta Lamda have each launched independent investigations into who provided the alcohol to Nicholas Brown, 18, and whether or not last Thursday's incident was the result of hazing.  University officials say the party was hosted at the Phi Delt house for big brothers and their pledges.  Around 100 people attended, and the event was closed to anyone outside of the fraternity.

(Ashley Tull, Sr Assoc Dean of Students, U of A at Fayetteville)
"There was not an open, registered party. The event that occurred last week at Phi Delt was a chapter-only activity, so this was not an open party for guests at all."

Brown was pledging at the house and reportedly consumed large amounts of alcohol.  The university police report says Brown's girlfriend picked him up from the house and walked him to his dorm where he was stumbling, fell and busted his lip.  National Office Executive Vice President Bob Biggs says Brown's parents told the national office their son's blood alcohol level when he was first hospitalized was .68.

In a statement on the international fraternity's website, Jacob Kingdon, director of chapter services, said, "Our primary concern is the health and wellbeing of our members.  We are thankful that the potential new member who was hospitalized Thursday night has recovered and has since returned to his classes....After our investigation is complete, the chapter and all individuals involved will be held accountable for their actions."

Biggs says it is against fraternity policy to have alcohol in the house at any time regardless of the age of those at a function.  The Phi Delt national office and the university have both suspended all social activities and pledging at the fraternity.  Meanwhile, the chapter president says the house is glad to have their member back and is prepared to cooperate with the investigation.

(Robert Darnell, Phi Delta Theta Fayetteville Chapter President)
"We are doing absolutely everything possible to work with the university and Phi Delta Theta headquarters to help with the investigation."

LRPhotographer you obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about and possibly all the faults you mention are yours.  Fraternities serve a good service in developing young men into leaders.  Take a look at all the male leaders of our business world and you'll find most belonged to fraternities....the same can be said for our politicians.

Wow you almost had me, then you brought up politicians... yeah they are my heros.

You are saying the fraternities makes lairs and drunks??
